| The HP Planet Partners recycling program enables simple, convenient recycling of Original HP inkjet and HP LaserJet supplies, any brand of computer hardware, and rechargeable batteries. HP ensures that returned products are recycled properly, processing them to recover valuable plastics and metals for use in new products, and diverting millions of tons of waste from landfills.1 |

How HP reduces its impact |
| HP reduces packaging and uses recycled materials whenever possible. |
• |
Recycled printer cartridges are reduced to raw materials to make new products. Remaining material is disposed of or handled responsibly through energy recovery. |
• |
HP reduces packaging and uses recycled material whenever possible to limit the amount of new materials it uses to package and ship products. |
• |
HP high-capacity printer cartridges require fewer cartridge and packaging materials per printed page, than standard Original HP cartridges. |
Environmentally minded manufacturing |
| The HP "closed loop" ink cartridge recycling process was the first of its kind. |
| HP is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its products: |
• |
Original HP printer cartridges are manufactured at facilities certified under ISO 14001, an internationally recognized standard of environmental management systems. |
• |
The HP "closed loop" ink cartridge recycling process combines used HP ink cartridges with recycled plastic bottle materials to create new HP ink cartridges. |
• |
According to a 2010 life-cycle assessment, using recycled plastic—over new plastic—in Original HP ink cartridges has a reduced environmental impact in all areas studied—including water use and carbon footprint.3 |
| In 2010, HP used 19.6 million pounds of recycled plastic as raw material in the manufacture of new Original HP printer cartridges, keeping 490 tractor-trailer loads of plastic from going to landfills. |

For cartridges produced between 2005 and 2010. Based on a 2010 life-cycle assessment (LCA) performed by Four Elements Consulting and commissioned by HP. The study compared the environmental impact of using polyethylene terephthalate plastic (PET) with the environmental impact of using recycled polyethylene terephthalate plastic to manufacture new Original HP cartridges.
