The HP "closed loop" ink cartridge recycling process combines used HP ink cartridges with recycled plastic bottle materials to create new HP ink cartridges. |

According to a 2010 life-cycle assessment, using recycled plastic—over new plastic—in Original HP ink cartridges has a reduced environmental impact in all areas studied—including water use and carbon footprint.3 |

| In 2010, HP used 19.6 million pounds of recycled plastic as raw material in the manufacture of new Original HP printer cartridges, keeping 490 tractor-trailer loads of plastic from going to landfills. |
